All cats and dogs over the age of 6 months must be licensed in the State of New Jersey. The licensing cycle for dogs is January 01 through December 31, and for cats it is June 01 through May 31.
Rabies vaccination for dogs must expire after November 1, 2025 to get a 1-year license and for a 3-year license, rabies vaccination must expire after November 1, 2027. Dog licenses expire on December 31, renewals obtained afterwards will incur a $10 late fee. NEW Dogs can register at any time throughout the year and will not be required to pay a late fee.
Rabies vaccination for cats must expire after May 1, 2025 to get a 1-year license and after May 1, 2027 for a 3-year license. Cat license renewals must be obtained by May 31, renewals obtained afterwards will incur a $10 late fee. NEW Cats can register at any time throughout the year and will not be required to pay a late fee.
The non-refundable fee is $12 for neutered/spayed ("fixed") cats & dogs and $15 for unneutered/unspayed dogs & cats for a 1-year license.

Pet licenses can be obtained through the mail by returning the proper form, proof of rabies, proof of spay/neuter status (if applicable) and a check payable to the "Borough of Fair Lawn". Separate checks are needed for 1 and 3 year licenses if you obtain a 1 year license for one pet and a 3-year license for another pet.
Animal cruelty information for all animal owners: Pursuant to the provisions of P.L. 2017, CHAPTER 189 requires that all persons owning dogs, be provided this information. It is advisable that all persons owning other animals should also be aware of these animal cruelty laws.
