The Mayor and Council remind all residents to properly recycle during the
spring clean up time of year. The improper disposal of recyclables in the
garbage costs the Borough unnecessarily in disposal fees and reduces revenue
from the sale of recyclables.
The following programs are available for Fair Lawn residents to assist in
properly disposing of your materials:
Household Hazardous Waste: The Bergen County Utilities Authority will be
holding their first household hazardous waste collection on Sunday, April 6
at Bergen Community College in Paramus from 9 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine. For
more information call the BCUA at 201-807-5825 or visit their web site at
www.bcua.org.
Used Clothing: Containers are provided at the Fair Lawn Recycling Center for
donations of used clothing to the American Red Cross, DARE program, Goodwill
and the Salvation Army.
Yard Waste: New Jersey law bans yard waste from being thrown in the garbage.
The Fair Lawn Recycling Division resumes its regular yard waste collection
during the week of April 7. Consult your recycling handbook for details.
Metal, Appliances & Electronics: The Fair Lawn Recycling Division will
collect all metal, appliances and electronics, including televisions,
stereos, computers, monitors, VCRs and DVD players on your regular recycling
day by appointment only. To schedule a collection, call the Recycling Office
at 201-794-5366.
Tires: Tires are accepted at the Fair Lawn Recycling Center for a small fee
of $1.00 per car tire and $3.00 per truck tire. Tires must be removed from
the rims, but the rims are accepted as part of the metal recycling program.
Recycling Barrels: The green recycling barrels are for commingle recycling
collection only. Broken recycling barrels may be exchanged at the Recycling
Office during regular business hours. Residents are also reminded to mark
their address on the barrel to allow it to be returned on windy days.
Free Compost / Woodchips: The Fair Lawn Recycling Center has free compost
and woodchips available to Fair Lawn residents. The material is not treated
with any chemicals and may need to be screened prior to use. Please bring
your own bucket and shovel. Quantities are limited.
The Fair Lawn Recycling Center is located at 20-05 Saddle River Road and is
open Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and
Sunday, Noon to 4:00 PM. Last entry into the yard is 10 minutes prior to
closing. The center is also closed on Borough holidays.
For more information about these programs, contact the Fair Lawn Recycling
Division at 201-794-5366 or recycling at fairlawn.org.
The Mayor and Council are comprised of Mayor Steven Weinstein, Deputy Mayor
Joseph Tedeschi, Deputy Mayor Lisa Swain, Councilmember Jeanne Baratta and
