Fair Lawn Recycling Replaces Barrels

[Fair Lawn] - The Mayor and Council announce that broken Borough recycling
barrels can be exchanged free of charge. Broken barrels should be brought to
the Recycling office located at 20-05 Saddle River Road, Monday to Friday
from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The barrels are green and can be identified by the
white recycling logo on the side of the can and a white five digit serial
number on the rim. The serial numbers are registered to specific addresses
and residents can only exchange barrels that are assigned to their home.

The original barrels were distributed to all homes and businesses in 1995 to
promote the commingle recycling collection program and to allow crews to
distinguish between yard waste and commingle for more efficient collections.
The barrels can only be used for the recycling of glass bottles and jars,
plastic bottles, tin and aluminum cans. All other materials placed in the
container will not be collected.

Residences without a recycling barrel can file a stolen barrel report at the
Recycling office for a free replacement. Residents who find a barrel can
report the found barrel to the Recycling office so it can be returned to its
registered location. Residents are advised to mark their address on the
barrel above the serial number with a permanent marker.

Residents or businesses with questions regarding the recycling program can
call the Recycling office at 201-794-5366 or e-mail recycling at fairlawn.org
for more information.
