RGO 204-20 - Additional Regulations for Leaves
Leaves in the streets are a ROAD HAZARD to traffic, a FIRE HAZARD when
cars are parked on them and an attractive nuisance to children playing
in them. The Borough of Fair Lawn wishes to make the streets as safe as
possible for all residents and your cooperation with the following is
appreciated:
During leaf collection season, no person shall sweep, rake or deposit
leaves into any Borough right-of-way or public place, except for those
leaves which fall within 10 feet of the sidewalk and /or curb.
All other leaves must be bagged in biodegradable paper leaf bags. All
biodegradable leaf bags shall be placed at the curb on the regular yard
waste recycling day.
The garbage contractors will NOT pick up yard waste.
PLASTIC BAGS WILL NOT BE PICKED UP AND CANNOT BE USED FOR BAGGING LEAVES
The sweeping, raking or blowing of leaves to the curb or along a street
will only be allowed during the 7 days prior to a scheduled and
announced collection.
Landscaping and other similar businesses engaged by Fair Lawn residents
may apply for a permit to dispose of their leaves at the Fair Lawn
Recycling Compost Site.
Disposal permits may be obtained at the Fair Lawn Recycling Center at a
cost of $100 for each permit. Cash and checks will be accepted (checks
made payable to Borough of Fair Lawn).
Leaves will not be placed within 10 feet of any storm drain inlet.
Placement of leaves along any street at any other time is a violation of
Borough Ordinance and is punishable by the following:
first offense: $500 fine
second offense: $500-$1000 fine
OR imprisonment of up to 90 days
OR community service not exceeding 90 days at the discretion of the
Municipal Judge.
